Searching for the High Road

I have started this post over and over again and I’m still not sure what I want to say.  I guess I’ll just… start.

I tried to teach my kids when they were growing up to always do the right thing no matter what anyone else did/does.  “You can only be responsible for yourself,” I told them.  “You can’t help or change what other people choose to do.  YOU do the right thing.”

Be honest…be kind…be ethical…have integrity. It’s the way to sleep well at night. Do what’s right.

So here I am… 64 years old… trying to follow my own advice.

Someone did something recently that I found sad and disappointing.  I was surprised that this person runs a business, seemingly without having learned those lessons.  (and.. oh yeah!  I was angry, too! Can you tell?)

Okay… so here’s the scoop…

Months ago, this person (let’s call her Patricia) asked me for a quote to make a wholesale purchase of bracelets.  I spent a good deal of time preparing the quote.  Patricia approved the quote and after providing me with her PayPal email address and shipping address, she requested an invoice (which I provided).

She never bought the bracelets.  Okay.  It happens.  Life goes on.

Several months later, I got another message from her, telling me how well the bracelets were doing and asking me for another quote.  Well… I knew she never bought the bracelets, at least not from me.   I wondered what was up, but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.  I didn’t want to think that she was intentionally misrepresenting her intentions.  She couldn’t be that unethical.  Could she?  And so I took the time and prepared another quote.  Again, no purchase.

Ten days ago, I got another message saying “I would like to place another wholesale order with you”.  Really????

This time I wrote back and VERY politely asked how they are using my quotes and where they are buying their bracelets.  *crickets*  Ten days… no reply.

My first thought (which I have abandoned) was to publish her name and the name of her bricks-and-mortar store on Facebook, Twitter, and here – with scathing comments, but that would be unkind and retaliatory and neither of those are who I want to be.

I don’t wish her ill will.  She’s had far too much sadness in her life already.  I wish her love… and kindness… and I hope that she is treated better and with more integrity than she treated me.

Deepak Chopra said in an interview with Oprah that he believes that prayer is talking to God.  Meditation is allowing God’s spirit to talk to you (me).  “Interesting”, I thought – “confusing, but interesting”. I wondered how meditation would allow God to talk to me. Would He speak in a voice that I would hear in my head?  (Hey… who am I to say that wouldn’t happen?)  How would I hear Him speak? And would He???

Several months ago, Mr. Chopra was offering a free 21-day meditation through Oprah, so, I signed up and started.  I mean… after all, it was free!   What did I have to lose?

I had NO idea how many thoughts run around in my head ALL of the time, until I tried to quiet my mind.  It was amazing and actually kind of funny. The thoughts just never stop.

By the end of the first day it made sense.  How many times did I say to my kids when they were growing up… “You can’t possibly hear me when you’re talking.”  Light bulb moment!  How could I possibly hear what God was saying to me when my mind was so busy talking.

What did I find out?  How does God speak to me?  I think He speaks through circumstances… opportunities… urgings in my spirit… needs that speak to me (I believe that this whole area of our website is part of that). I’m not an expert and I sure don’t have all of the answers, but I’ve learned that if I want to hear what God has to say, I need a quiet mind.

ANYWAY… Oprah and Depak are doing it again.  This time the meditation is called “21 Day Meditation Challenge – Perfect Health”. (Of course, I thought of you.)   And… it’s FREE! All of the information is at the link above and here.

The 21-day meditation begins on Monday, March 11th and continues for… duh… 21 days.

I’m going to do it!  I can hardly wait!

Positive Energy

A couple of months ago, I saw Jill Bolte Taylor, author of My Stroke of Insight, on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday (Oprah is not my fave but her Sunday morning Super Soul series definitely IS).

Ms. Taylor, a Harvard trained brain scientist, experienced a massive stroke when she was only 37 years old.  The book tells of her experience and the insight that she gained.

Although I found Ms. Taylor’s story fascinating, and her book on my “must read” list, this is not a book review, so I’ll get to the point (or try to. I tend to digress).

One of the things that stood out to me in the interview with Oprah was that Jill (okay… we’re on a first name basis now) talked about the energy that people brought with them into her room.

She felt so strongly about it that she made a sign to hang on the outside of her door that said, “You are responsible for the energy that you bring into this room”.  I mean… really!  How true!

When we are recovering and/or healing (or any time, really), it seems incredibly important to surround ourselves with positive energy.

If I were a tattoo kind of gal, I think this is so major that I’d have a tattoo on my forehead that says, “You are responsible for the energy that you bring into my life.”

If I had enough room, I’d add, “so ‘happy up’ or move on”.  (but my forehead is not quite that large)

For now, I’ll be mindful of the energy that I bring to people – to places – to life.

Do you feel the energy that people bring when they visit you?  If so, how does it affect you?

Sending you positive energy!

I was making bracelets yesterday (lots and lots of bracelets) and Michael said that it reminded him of playing with Legos.  It made me laugh because it’s so true.  So many colors – so many combinations – so many possibilities – so little time.

What’s your favorite color?

Treasury – Silver Love

And again… another treasury!   How great is that!!!  The name of the treasury is “Silver Love”.  (What’s not to love about silver??)

Since the treasury will expire at some point (60 days?) and a link to the treasury would stop working at that point, I’ll put a picture of the treasury here instead of a link.

The bracelet that was chosen is the silver bracelet is a silver metallic 5mm round leather triple wrap bracelet and you can find it on the top row – third picture to the left.

Etsy Treasury - Silver LoveThis bracelet is great dressed up and great with a pair of blue jeans to add a little sparkle to your life.  Comfortable to wear and great to look at!

Thanks for looking!

Treasury – Winter White

We were picked for a treasury!!!   The name of the Treasury is “#16 November” and the theme is Winter White.

Since the treasury will expire at some point (60 days?) and a link to the treasury would stop working at that point, I’ll put a picture of the treasury here instead of a link.

The bracelet that was chosen is a Regaliz™ 10x6mm leather bracelet with coppertone and silvertone sliders and a coppertone magnetic clasp.

The bracelet (the only bracelet in the Treasury) is in the third row down on the far right side.

Etsy Treasury - Winter WhiteThis is one of the first bracelets that I made for myself.  It’s great winter or summer and goes with everything.  I loved mixed metal jewelry – so versatile.

Thank you for looking!
